In the long history of photography as processes have been superseded something of beauty has often been lost. Those of us who wish to preserve that beauty are alternative photographers.
One of the processes to be replaced by digitisation is photoscreen where tonal separations turned into stencils on a ‘silk screen’ and then printed. The more separations the closer to a photographic image. Making fewer separations can lead to exciting tonal and colour variations.
We are lucky to have Brian Whitehead, who taught me how to do it, to run workshops on photo-screen printing and mezzotint.
