HANDS-ON PICTURES WORKSHOPS FOR 2007
WITH
TERRY KING & OTHERS

As other priorities mean that we are unable to run workshops over the whole of the academic year any longer we have concentrated on well established such as gum printing and gum bichromate and the new processes which arose out of our retro-invention programme. In our year long progrmme of alternative process workshops we covered nearly everything; the processes we omitted were those such wet collodion, where the most effective fixer is potassium cyanide, and the daguerreotype where the ‘developer’ consists of fumes from a pool of warm mercury. We are however planning to include workshops, with appropriate safety measures, for both processes in the summer of 2007. Here is an example of a daguerreotype by Mike Robinson who is likely to run one of the workshops.

GUM REX & SUBTLETY

A one day introduction to the beautiful gum rex process. £100
Terry King has found it necessary to differentiate his way of making gum prints to avoid confusion. Other methods, popular over recent years, tend, to some eyes, to lack the subtlety of colour of which the process is capable or to attempt to replicate what is better done at a print and dev shop. The methods associated with the standard process also tend to be somewhat overcomplicated and long-winded. This day is designed to give a hands-on introduction. Those coming on the workshop may wish to practice before coming on the week-long ‘total immersion’ gum rex workshop from 26 February to 2 March.
