Individual Processes

To learn more about an individual process please select a Process from the list in the Workshops & Costs menu.

The length of each workshop varies according to the process.
Costs:

  • One Student GBP 400 per day
  • Two Students GBP 200 per day per student
  • Three Students GBP 135 per day per day per student
  • Four to Six Students GBP 100 per day per day per student

Generally there will not be more than six students on a workshop.

Demonstration prints will be made using one of my stock negatives.
Students will be able to make one print of their own using my stock negative or using one of their own negatives.
Alternatively negatives can be prepared from photographs taken on the workshop but this will increase both the time and cost.

Demonstration materials are included in the cost but due to the high cost of materials students will be required to obtain their own materials should they wish to make their own prints during the workshop.

I do not have a fixed programme of courses but where people are interested in a particular process or group of processes, I am happy to arrange workshops accordingly.
I will generally be able to provide materials at an additional cost.

Combination Workshops
Many of these processes can be combined to produce stunning and creative effects such as:
Gum over Platinum

Cyanotype over Gum

Special combination workshops can be arranged, please contact me to discuss your requirements.

Workshop centres

I give workshops on individual processes or groups of processes. The minimum length of a hands-on workshop would be two days. An additional day will be necessary for preparation and set up at your premises. Fees are negotiable but I expect my travel expenses to be paid and, where appropriate, accommodation to be provided. Availability of equipment and materials or whether I should supply them needs to be discussed beforehand.

Universities & Colleges in the UK and overseas.

I am happy to run a series or individual workshops to fit in with the curricula of degree and post-graduate courses. I prefer to work with up to six students. An additional day will be necessary for preparation and set up at your premises. Fees are negotiable but I expect my travel expenses to be paid and, where appropriate, accommodation to be provided. Availability of equipment and materials or whether I should supply them needs to be discussed beforehand.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

  1. Those coming on the workshops will need to wear old clothes and/or protective clothing.
  2. They will also need to provide themselves, where appropriate, with goggles, gloves and dust masks.
  3. They will need to provide an undertaking that they accept the risks involved in handling hazardous materials and that Hands-On Pictures can accept no responsibility for injury, illness or loss resulting from attendance at the course.
  4. The premises and the methods of handling chemicals have been inspected by the local authority environmental health office.
  5. Although we act as a 'private club' for these purposes, we follow good professional practice which gives us more flexibility than would be the case if we were dealing with students at a school or a college.
  6. In general our policy is to use nothing more dangerous than is usually found in a kitchen cupboard.
